Mead Hosts Visiting Artist Melanie Baker
Today was a very special day in art class as our K-8 students enjoyed a visit with professional artist Melanie Baker from Brooklyn, New York. Melanie creates with classic academic techniques drawn from a deep knowledge of art history. She uses charcoal and graphite in her drawings, many of which deal with the concepts of power and masculinity in politics, history, and finance.
After an introduction and a brief Q&A with students, Melanie demonstrated a still life drawing using some of her techniques, and students were invited to create their own drawing.
Melanie's work is represented by Cristin Tierney Gallery in New York City.
