Annual Middle School Canoe Bonding Trip
On Thursday morning students in the 6th, 7th, & 8th grades headed off to Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk for the Center's annual canoe bonding trip led by our program guide of several years, Mountain Workshop. This organization partners well with Mead because the trip supports many of the school's values including collaboration, hands-on education, stretching beyond comfort zones, and most of all, fun engagement with the outdoors and each other!
The day started and ended with community-building games. The group canoed to a small island off of Calf Pasture and by the time the group canoed back to shore, high tide had arrived and the island almost entirely disappeared! Students enjoyed seining, searching for crabs, and catching minnows. All animals were released back into the water.
From carrying the canoes to the water, to rowing in sync, to carrying the canoes back on the trailer - an excursion filled with collaboration provided a wonderful bonding exercise to start the year!
