Grades 2-3-4 Visit New Pond Farm
An excited group of students and faculty departed for New Pond Farm Education Center in Redding this morning. The day trip was planned to coincide with their study of the Eastern Woodland Native Americans.
The group hiked to New Pond Farm's encampment where students learned about the Connecticut Native Americans' daily activities, while experiencing the environment around them including a barked wigwam and a thatched longhouse.
Students were also offered samples of various foods while discussing gathering, gardening and the challenges of preparing and storing food without the modern conveniences we are all accustomed to. Some of the foods served included Cornbread, Pure Maple Syrup, Popcorn, Raw Pumpkin Seeds and Sunflower Seeds, Dried Cranberries, and Raisins.
