Community Clean

Community Clean

Have you ever heard of Community Clean? At the Mead School, students and faculty come together every Friday for this signature program that instills a sense of responsibility and commitment in the students. From pre-kindergarten to eighth grade, each student chooses a location within the school to care for, maintain, and clean during the last block of their Friday schedule.

Brinton, a fifth-grader, selected the administration wing as his designated area for the year. Every Friday at 2:40 PM, he promptly reports to the front of the building to gather his cleaning supplies and begins tidying the space. Brinton particularly enjoys cleaning the railing on the main entrance staircase, as he finds the instant transformation and sense of accomplishment immensely satisfying.
Oden, a fourth grader, is new to the Mead school this year and has brought his knowledge of computers to his Community Clean assignment and has instructed the administration team to use an old t-shirt to ensure a safe and effective streak-free clean of their laptop screens.

Teachers are also huge fans of Community Clean and what it instills in our students.

Adam says:
“It gives the students ownership of the space they work in by taking care of it.”

Phoebe adds:
“I love how sometimes the youngest students help to “teach” the older ones how to do a task properly! And they ALL help each other out!”

This initiative not only ensures a clean and well-maintained environment for learning but also fosters a strong sense of community among the students and staff. Through Community Clean, students learn valuable life skills and the importance of taking pride in their surroundings.
