Alumni Work Chosen for Spaceflight!
Riley Haynes, Class of 2023, and a rising sophomore at Stamford High School has a lot to smile about these days! Riley was one of two students whose science research experiments will be launched into space by NASA this month from Wallops Island, Virginia.
Riley participated in a 9-week course introducing students to scientific inquiry and engineering design processes essential for designing research, and an experiment to fly on a real NASA missions to space or near space. This opportunity was paid for by a generous grant from NASA.
Riley had to compete against colleges and universities for the coveted spot. Her winning experiment, The Effect of Ionizing Radiation on the Decomposition of Bacteria in a Near Space Environment seeks to understand how we can recycle in space as we colonize the Moon and Mars.
Congratulations to Riley--we could not be more proud (but not surprised) of her outstanding achievement!
