Alumni Stephanie Woodman ('12) Presents Robotics at Mead
Stephanie Woodman graduated from The Mead School in 2012 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University. She is currently a doctoral student and researcher at Yale University. In 2022 Stephanie was awarded both the National Science Foundation GRFP Fellowship, and the NASA NSTGRO Fellowship. Both fellowships allow Stephanie the freedom to work on the projects that she is most passionate about, including the creation of shape-morphing, adaptable robots for the real world!
Stephanie returned to Mead last week to give a lesson in robotics to the 3rd & 4th Grades Space class. Students were treated to Stephanie's expertise in “soft robots” designed for planetary exploration. The class was especially interested in the hands-on lesson with robots, which were tricky to use, but students were GREAT about trying hard and keeping at it!
According to Phoebe Griffith, Curriculum Director of Science and Stephanie's former teacher, "having Steph come back to teach was such a proud moment. Proud that I helped her along the way, to discover what interested her - and proud of her and all the accomplishments she has achieved in her academic career. An internship at NASA, for goodness’ sake!"
