Pre-K and Kindergarten Field Trip to Westchester Children's Museum

Pre-K and Kindergarten Field Trip to Westchester Children's Museum

This week, our Pre-K and Kindergarten classes ventured to the Westchester Children's Museum in Rye, New York! The children were so excited and, for many of them, this was their first experience riding a school bus!  All were astonished by how big the bus was. The students buddied up and really enjoyed the ride - there were even cheers when they passed the local Home Depot!

Upon arrival at the Museum, the classes were split into two groups, each with students from Pre-K and K for a mixed-age experience. The first group experienced the Building Structure's workshop where they were able to learn about "Nature's Engineers"- beavers!  The students were provided rocks, clay, and popsicle sticks to build their very own dams. Once completed, each dam was tested to see how much water it held back. Many were successful!

As one group visited the workshop, the other was off exploring the museum exhibits! The students loved that each and every exhibit was hands-on and interactive. The first exhibit featured Wikki-Stick web-building, a dry erase drawing table, and spinning gravity chairs! The second had a wall of pegs to create pixelated designs with pool noodle pieces, a train table, a performance stage, and everyone's favorite, a mist tornado!  Finally, students enjoyed the "Build Your Own Roller Coaster" exhibit and played "Around the World", where the children were able to experience different types of play in Japanese, Chinese, and South Korean cultures.

The groups switched places so that all students had an opportunity to experience the full breadth of the activities! Students and teachers had a wonderful time exploring together.

  • A big "thank you" to our parent volunteers Emily Altman (Mikayla's mom), and Laura Blumenthal-Burdick (Jacob's mom), for joining us on the trip!
  • Special heartfelt thanks to Thomas Sullivan, Executive Director of The Westchester Children's Museum, and dad to Rex (Grade 3) and Magnolia (Grade 1), for graciously hosting our group and facilitating this important trip!
