The Mead School Diversity Mission Statement is more than words on a page - it is a living document that guides our actions.

Diversity of every type is explored, honored and respected at Mead. Our community values the importance of diversity and multiculturalism; our commitment goes well beyond race.

Our commitment requires us to not only be conscious of our choices, but to continuously reflect on them. It compels us to be completely open with each other. This is hard work, and it is never done.

Mead School students develop the skills to appreciate, understand, and celebrate the differences and similarities in each of us, and the Mead School faculty has prioritized delivering a curriculum that is non-biased and aware - a genuine multicultural education.

Guided by the Board of Trustees' Diversity Committee, Board members, faculty, staff and parents work together to ensure that Mead School's intentions and actions remain consistent and true to our mission. Students benefit from this work every day.

Diversity defined

Diversity at Mead School means acceptance and respect for similarities and differences inherent in all human beings. Understanding diversity is central to creating a cooperative and vibrant society. Learning, exploring and seeking to understand one another and the various dimensions of diversity including but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic status, age, learning styles, physical abilities, religious and political beliefs, deepen participation in the community and the world. At The Mead School, we strive to provide experiences that empower and prepare children to become successful participants in their society.

Multi-cultural curriculum

Students and teachers are continuously challenged to broaden their knowledge base to develop a curriculum embedded with perspectives, histories, cultures, and contributions of diverse groups.

Global awareness and exposure to the world around them comes not only through classroom experiences, but also through field trips and excursions designed to bring the world alive.

The Mead School is dedicated to developing and nurturing a diverse community. We seek to create a school culture and curriculum that cultivates open minds, recognizes similarities and honors differences, and includes a diversity of perspectives. We want our students to develop an understanding of themselves in relation to their community and the world, and to empower them to use the Seven School Skills to affect change.
