Sports & Activities at Mead

Ensuring children are active & challenge themselves through participation is key to our philosophy.

 

After School Activities

Our After School Program is available to children in Grades K - 8. We offer staff-based curriculum and sports-based activities covering a wide variety of subjects by both Mead faculty and outside vendors. Programs run throughout the year and change seasonally.
 

WINTER TRIMESTER 2019
 

Introductory Sewing

In Introductory Sewing, you'll learn the basics of sewing including various stitches, seam finishes and techniques. This class will help students build a solid sewing foundation while completing simple projects: a drawstring bag, a zippered pouch, custom fit pajama pants and a quilted reusable grocery tote. All levels of sewing ability welcome.

'Tinkering' with Engineering

In this program students will directly apply their curiosity and let creativity guide the way! As a group, students will explore the world of 3D Printing, Bot engineering, computer parts, and will take gadgets apart to see how they operate! There's no right or wrong way to tinker - it's true engineering exploration!! Join the fun in the Mead School's STEAM LAB on Fridays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Chess Club Students in grades 2-7 at all levels of play are invited to participate in the after school Mead Chess Club. Classes will be instructed by chess professionals following the curriculum of the Chess Club of Fairfield County, designed to build logical and critical thinking, develop patience and concentration, develop executive functions, and connect students with the global and historical evolution of chess strategy.

THURSDAYS- 3:45PM - 4:45PM

DATES- 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/18, 3/7

For grades 6-8 basketball players: Please remember that there are a few 6-8 basketball games scheduled for upcoming Thursdays.

There is an opportunity to extend the program and join the Chess club at a later date if the minimum requirement of 8 students is met for this session.

Team Sports

All students in Grades 3-8 have the opportunity to participate in seasonal team sports.

Soccer, basketball and softball are offered as the primary sports with games scheduled against other similarly-sized schools.

Requirements by Grade:

Grade 3: At least 2 Sports

Grade 4: At least 2 Sports

Grade 5: At least 2 Sports

Grade 6: At least 1 Sport

Grade 7: At least 1 Sport

Grade 8: At least 1 Sport

Participation is strongly encouraged of all the kids.  We moved our boys from another school and never looked back.
