An important part of curricululm in the ELC is learning about different family traditions, celebrations, and cultures. This week in the Preschool Center, students learned about Diwali, and students were able to incorporate what they learned into their daily activities. This was a perfect integration with the students' recent "colors" curriculum, as the celebration of Diwali is known for its beautiful, colorful lights.
Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".
