Our fourth graders worked on their Symbolic Monarch Migration project this week. Each student created their own realistic monarch to send to a school in Mexico near the Monarch sanctuary. The symbolic butterflies’ fall flight is timed to correspond with the real monarchs’ journey south.
Students who live near the monarch sanctuaries in Mexico will protect the paper butterflies that they receive. Sometime in March, when the real monarchs’ departure from Mexico is announced, the paper butterflies will return north carrying special messages from the students in Mexico.
