Parent Association
Every Mead family belongs to the Parent Association. The Parent Association provides social, educational, and fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Our purpose is to maintain a feeling of camaraderie within the Mead community, to facilitate communication, and to support the school financially. Through active involvement, parents and guardians contribute their voice, energy, and ideas. Being present at meetings and functions also conveys a commitment to our children’s education. Parent Association meetings are open to all Mead parents and guardians.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to make new friends and to learn more about our school. Parents volunteer as PA officers and general volunteers, as well as Home Center Parents, Committee Chairpersons and members of various PA Committees. PA Committees include:

Annual Fundraiser: The purpose of this committee is to plan and orchestrate the major annual fundraising event for the school.   This year's event will be an Auction held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at The Italian Center in Stamford, CT.

Book Fair: The Book Fair serves the dual purpose of communicating the value of literature to our children while helping to support the school. The Fall Book Fair will be held in the school gym November 2-4, 2010.   The Spring Book Fair will be held in the school gym May 10-12, 2011.

Center Basket Raffle: This fabulous fundraiser runs in conjunction with Popcorn Bingo and is coordinated by Home Center Parents.  Raffle tickets are sold prior to and during Popcorn Bingo.  Drawing takes place at the event on Sunday, February 13, 2011.

Cultural Enrichment: The purpose of this committee is to preview local artists for Mead, and liaise with the faculty to provide additional cultural curriculum for the students. Volunteers sample a variety of performances for free, attend the Greenwich Arts Council and host visiting artists at school.

Fall Fundraiser: This Fall fundraiser involves working with a company, distributing order packets to the school community, receiving and processing orders, distribution of orders, and keeping communication with the school community to encourage participation and ensure timeliness.  This year's fundraiser will be a gift wrap drive featuring recycled paper products.  Runs September 13-October 4, 2010.

Family Photo Day:  Get your holiday family shots taken on the Mead Campus.  November 23, 2010.

Mead Movie Night:  Bring your blanket, sleeping bag and pajamas. Food and snacks will be sold for a fun-filled family movie night!  Friday, January 21, 2011 at 6:00pm.

Mead Merchandise: This committee selects, orders, and sells (and buys!) items with the Mead School logo. A great way to display our school spirit!

Popcorn Bingo:This POPular annual family event includes a bake sale, lots of bingo prizes, pizza, and of course, popcorn! Volunteers are needed to plan and implement the fun.   February 13, 2011.

Staff Appreciation Day:  This special day is exclusively for our beloved staff.   Luncheon and treats provided by parents & students.  December 14, 2010 and May 26, 2011.

Home Center Parents/Guardians:Each Center has Home Center Parents who organize social get-togethers and support the needs of the parents, guardians and teachers within their Center. Home Center Parents also act as coordinators for the various P. A. Events which are run by parents within the center.  Parents and guardians should feel free to call their Home Center Parent with questions, concerns, ideas and expect to be called upon by them when volunteers are needed.

The Parent Association Board is comprised of the Executive Officers, Committee Chairs, and Home Center Parents. In March, nominations are accepted for the following year's Parent Association Board. In early May, all members of the Parent Association are asked to decide, by consensus, on a slate of officers which is then presented to the Trusteeship Committee of the Board of Trustees for approval of the incoming Parent Association President.  The term for the Parent Association Board is two years.
