The Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" has gained momentum among teenagers since its debut. The topics of teen suicide, rape and substance abuse are handled in a very complex and mature manner. The graphic and brutal images depicted could be difficult for Middle School students to process and make sense of.

This issue is increasingly complicated in the "new media" world where there aren't always clear rating systems in place.
